The Ecologies of The Future

AN AFROFUTURIST CLIMATE FICTION FILM AND INSTALLATION

The Ecologies of Space Travel

We have the technologies required to build a sustainable future for humanity.

And still we don’t. Yet in deep space, we have none of what we take for granted here on Earth. Essentials like oxygen, water, and food are engineering miracles. Because of this, we are forced to take on new habits: when humans live in outer space, water must be recycled, food is grown in closed loop hydroponic gardening systems, and we 3D print habitats using natural raw materials. This speculative science film and traveling art exhibit showcases what the ecologies of living in deep space for the purpose of inspiring more regenerative decisions for building our cities and communities here on Earth.

How We Live on Mars

Research driving regenerative design.

Mycelium growing on the Martian surface

Mycology Materials

Fungal mycelium grown into structural substrates—lightweight, fire-resistant, and biodegradable alternatives to plastic, styrofoam, and heavy construction.

Biophilic spacesuit sculpture integrated with living flora

Biophilic Design

Living architecture that integrates plants, water, and natural light into habitats to reduce stress, purify air, and reconnect inhabitants with organic life cycles.

Hexagonal orbital fleet powered by integrated clean energy systems

Clean Energy

Closed-loop systems, solar harvesting arrays, and regenerative power grids that turn every habitat into a self-sustaining ecological node.

The Immersive Experience

Space exploration, reframed as a living bio-regenerative revolution.

The Ecologies of the Future reframes space exploration as a living, bio-regenerative, and human-centered revolution. By showcasing how fungal myco-architecture, biophilic design, and closed-loop ecosystems accelerate climate resilience and plastic alternatives on Earth, this showcase transforms aerospace into a culturally relevant story for today's generation.

The Feature Film Narrative

A quiet astrobotanist inherits a red planet.

Inspired by Octavia Butler's unpublished Parable of the Trickster, when the president of humanity's first city on Mars is overthrown, a quiet 16-year-old astrobotanist must overcome her homesickness to lead the settlement into a regenerative future.
